Senior Director of Outreach & Engagement
Vanessa D. Marrero leads ERP’s outreach and engagement efforts and serves as a senior advisor to the field on how to use ERP’s suite of tools and services to improve student outcomes. She has 20 years of experience working in a wide range of positions in K-12 and Community College educational, non-profit and health clinical sectors.
Vanessa has provided transformative organizational and community leadership charged with school redesign, strategic planning, connected learning and continuous improvement cycles in both California and New York. Most recently, she served as Director of College and Career Readiness at Sacramento City Unified School District, where she focused on workforce preparation and broadening career access instruction. Prior to that, she worked in leadership positions at San Francisco Unified School District and Community College of San Francisco.
Most notably, Vanessa was distinguished in the 2019, Multicultural Executive Leadership Program for Women, Gold Cord Honors Recipient, receiving recognition from both the California Senate and Legislature. She serves as a member and advisor to several professional organizations and boards and recently presented for the California Department of Education, renowned Educating for Careers Conference, 2020. She is also a guest lecturer discussing culturally responsive practices within the intersegmental institutions in California.
Vanessa holds degrees and credentials in educational leadership and pupil services from California State University, East Bay and Sacramento, and holds a Master of Social Work, M.S.W. with a Student Community Development Specialization in Higher Education from Stony Brook University. She is pursuing her Doctorate in Organizational Change and Leadership, Ed.D., from University of Southern California, Rossier School of Education.
