Executive Vice President, External Relations
Alex Barrios leads ERP's development, communications and outreach teams. He has over 16 years’ experience directing strategic communications, outreach, engagement and constituent/client relations for large public agencies, nonprofit organizations, corporations and elected officials.
Prior to joining ERP, Alex worked in the K-12 education system as the Chief Communications Officer for Sacramento City Unified School District. For a decade he worked in the California State Legislature and in the executive branch as a communications director, public information officer and senior legislative representative. He also served as vice president at a top California public affairs firm where he managed strategy and communications for multiple Fortune 500 companies, foundations and non-profit organizations.
Throughout his career, Alex has worked closely with news media outlets and reporters across the country to help generate awareness of important social issues and public policy initiatives. He is highly regarded for his ability to lead effective community outreach and coalition-building campaigns. In 2010, the Sacramento Hispanic Chamber of Commerce named him "Young Professional of the Year" for organizing multiple outreach campaigns that helped pump millions of dollars into the local economy. He is a former appointed member of the Sacramento County Children's Coalition and serves on the Board of Directors of the California Leadership Institute and Mentoring Bridge (CLIMB).
Alex earned his M.A. in communication studies and B.A. in organizational communication from Sacramento State University.
