Educational Results Partnership (ERP) is pleased to announce an important leadership transition that honors our history and positions us for the future. After 25 years of visionary service, Founder and Chief Executive Officer Dr. James S. Lanich will become Chair of the Board of Directors. Succeeding him as CEO will be Alex Barrios, ERP’s current President. This planned transition marks a new chapter that strengthens our mission for the decade ahead.

Dr. Lanich founded ERP with a clear purpose: to use valid, reliable data to identify what works in public education and ensure all students have access to high-performing schools. From early student achievement analysis to statewide business-education partnerships and creation of the Honor Roll, he built an organization rooted in analytics, innovation, and a belief that targeted use of academic data can improve outcomes for all students.

As the education-to-career landscape has grown more complex, ERP’s work has evolved to meet new challenges. Alex Barrios has led this next phase by developing ERP’s Skills Currency framework and the SkillSight platform, which translates academic performance into verified, workforce-aligned skills. Under his leadership, ERP has expanded partnerships with school districts and employer groups to help students identify their strengths, understand the link between learning and earnings, and access real opportunities for success.

Alex’s appointment reflects his strategic leadership and deep understanding of ERP’s mission. As President & CEO, he will guide ERP’s next phase—expanding Skills Currency, strengthening the Honor Roll and ERP Institute, growing partnerships, and ensuring long-term organizational sustainability.

Dr. Lanich, as Board Chair, will continue serving as a strategic advisor, championing the mission he pioneered and ensuring continuity of ERP’s values and direction.

This transition, effective January 1, represents both continuity and renewal. With Dr. Lanich’s guidance and Alex Barrios’ leadership, ERP is poised to deepen its impact, expand innovation, and help even more students unlock the skills and opportunities that lead to economic mobility.

ERP’s mission continues—and remains more relevant than ever.
